STATIC MIXING IN LAMINAR FLOW

SMS Static Mixing elements are widely recognized as best technology available in static mixing under laminar flow conditions. They are made by crossing intermeshing bars in respect to the pipe axis; this structure generates subdivision first two-dimensionally and then three-dimensionally, making SMS elements suitable for mixing and/or dispersion of fluids with high viscosity ratios. Homogeneity of outlet product is function of the number of installed mixing elements; each elements is 90° rotated to the next.

PROFILE OF CROSSING INTERMESHING BARS IS THE MOST INDICATED FOR MIXING OF:

  • silicone

  • epoxy resins

  • glues

  • poly sulfide

  • adhesives

  • paints

Mixing elements with diameter from 6 to 12,4 mm are made in stainlless AISI 316, while the bigger ones are in stellite. For particular applications like silicone for glass, external diameter of mixing rod must be rectified, and we can provide tolerances from +0 to -2.


MIXING OF POLYURETHANES RESINS

Polyurethane can be made by various components, like:

  • polyols;
  • various additives;
  • pentane;
  • isocyanates;
  • catalyst;
  • water;
  • A 134;
  • MCFC 141B;
  • flame retardants.

Above components are mixed in various proportions and different elements giving different types of resins for different purposes.

Mixing temperatures are usually in the range from 20 to 50 °C, followed by reaction of components. The polymer obtained has chemical and physical properties greatly different from reactant ones

Machineries for polyurethane production have severalstatic mixers installed for different mixing phases, and for different final products.

  • Additivation of catalysts and/or colorants to silicone for dispensers production
  • Mixing of hardening agents to epoxy resins or polyester
  • Additivation of polyol with various agents

  • Additivation of pigment and catalyst to polyester resins in the Sheet Moulding Compound Process
  • General mixing of additives to adhesives and glues
  • Additivation of polyurethanes adhesive
  • Additivation of hardening agents to PU and poly sulphides for adhesives production and glues for windows in the automotive industry
  • Additivation of agents for bi-components adhesives
